Mission Prayer Groups
The Lee’s Summit Baptist Temple is committed to praying daily for our missionaries. Mission Prayer Groups are in place to ensure that each missionary LSBT supports is being lifted up in prayer regularly. Each missionary is represented by a group of LSBT members who commit to pray for their missionary. With approximately ten members of each group dedicated to praying, the missionary should have someone at LSBT praying for their ministry every day.
These groups meet once a month on the first Wednesday of the month to hear and discuss details regarding their missionary. It is also a time for the group to pray together. Before these Wednesday meetings, the church meets together for dinner in the Fellowship Hall at 6:00 PM. LSBT Families are asked to bring a dish of food to contribute for the meal. Visitors are welcome to be our guests at the meal. At 7:00 PM in the auditorium, there is a time of singing, announcements, and missions challenge before breaking up into the missions groups.
Visitors and members alike are encouraged to find a group to be a part of.
Annual Missions Conference
Each year the Lee’s Summit Baptist Temple holds a Missions Conference. The purpose of this conference is to have a specific time of year that our members and congregation can focus on what LSBT is doing regarding missions. It is during this annual conference that all the missions giving categories are explained in detail and everyone has the opportunity to make a commitment as to how they will participate in missions giving over the next year. It is also the time we assemble John and Romans to be sent to Mexico City.
Below are the main categories of missions giving and an explanation for each:
Loaves & Fishes – giving that is patterned from the five loaves and two fishes that were provided by the child in Mark 6:33-44. This giving is designed to be approximately ten dollars (the amount can be specified by the giver) given each week that would usually be spent on a meal. We encourage each person to place their Loaves and Fishes offering into special Loaves & Fishes envelopes that are distributed during the Missions Conference. This form of giving is one of the primary methods used by LSBT to support missionaries and be co-laborers in spreading the Gospel of Christ throughout the world.
Paper for Bibles – giving that purchases paper to print Bibles, New Testaments, Gospel Tracts, John & Romans booklets, and other related evangelistic literature. This is also called the Carlos Demarest Memorial Offering in honor of a good friend and great soul winner. These items are used by our partners in ministry at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Mexico City. Kevin Wynne is the pastor of this church and is one of our supported missionaries. His ministry relies on using these materials to help reach literally hundreds of thousands of people with the Gospel of Christ in one of the world's largest cities.
Christmas Offering – giving that goes to special missionary needs and mission projects throughout the year. The offering given during the current year is used to fund these needs the following year. This offering is intended to be a gift to “Jesus” as the first person on a Christmas list. It can be given at Christmas time or throughout the year.
