Adult Sunday School

The Sunday School Ministry is the main teaching arm of the Lee’s Summit Baptist Temple. Our Sunday School classes have important functions in caring and praying for our members, as well as monthly fellowships to become better acquainted with each other. This is the way the members of our church feel like a close-knit family while God continues to grow the church.

Why Sunday School?

Sunday School is…for Teaching.A Sunday School class is an excellent place for the Word of God to be taught. There is so much to learn in God’s Word and simply not enough time to teach it all from the pulpit. Matt.28:19a, “Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you,

Sunday School is…for Caring. Taking care of church members is another privilege of the Sunday School Ministry. From births to deaths, for sickness or other areas of need that may arise, each class provides biblical assistance to its members. 1 Cor. 12:25, “That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another.”

Sunday School is…for Prayer Support. When members need prayer, their Sunday School class is the primary group that puts prayer into action. Col.1:9, “For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you,

Sunday School is…for Small Group Fellowship. Group activities are coordinated through each Sunday School class. This is a time to get better acquainted with the members, and share life in the Lord. That’s Christian fellowship. Each adult class has a fellowship every month. 1 John 1:3, “That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.”

Sunday School is…for Making Friends. Finding friends is another benefit of Sunday School. People become closer when their lives are united with others in the smaller Sunday School class. As the church grows, the Sunday School classes keep that small group, close-knit feeling, in any size church. Col. 2:2, “That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ;”

How Do I Join A Sunday School Class?

A person may choose to join a specific class after their first visit, or they may visit several classes to see which class is best suited to them. During this process, a person may be asked several times to join a class, but should not feel pressured to join a class until they are ready. When a person decides on the class they want to join, the teacher should be informed, and they will handle the rest.
